Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Today is a vacation day. It’s a vacation day for us to remember those veterans that made it possible for my family, friends and co-workers to enjoy a beverage or two, barbecue and take it easy. I noticed a lot of chain e-mails being sent to my inbox reminding me that it was our armed services that made this day possible. I am grateful for those that fought to give me the liberties and freedoms I enjoy living here in the United States. I really didn’t need that email to remind me, but it was nice to see so many people dedicated to passing it along.

Today, the Johnsburg VFW along with help from the Johnsburg Lions and Woodstock Infantry Club put together the annual Memorial Day parade here in my home town Johnsburg, Illinois. I am very proud that Walla-Pa-Looza has decided to participate by having a float in this parade. I know this is short notice, but if you can stop and enjoy the parade today do so. The Memorial Day Parade starts at 9:30 from Fairview and Chapel Hill along Fairview crossing Johnsburg Road to Church St, then to the Johnsburg Community Center for the rest of the Memorial Day Program at the Armed Forces Flag Memorial. Antique and military vehicles will be on display during the picnic and baseball game that follows! Free hot dogs and pop will be provide by the Johnsburg Lions.

I hope to see some of you attend the parade and visit the memorial at the Johnsburg Community Club. It is a nice way to remember that today is more than a day off; its day that should remind us that sometimes we take for granted the opportunities given to us by the men and women who have given their lives for our country.

Have a wonderful holiday today and please stop and say hello if you see me in the parade or at the Community Club picnic.

Next week I promise to have some pictures and a recap of our adventures in the parade.
