Upcoming Events that Benefit Local Families

Pink Ribbon

As many of you know, the folks at Walla-Pa-Looza have decided to partner up with 3 different organizations to donate our funds to. The first one is The American Cancer Society. We are in our second year of donations with the ACS and will continue to support them.

The second came to us by the way of Donna Grabow and that is the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. Each year we donate a portion of our proceeds in honor of her son, Jackson Grabow. You might have seen the banner for Jackson’s Playground near the children’s activities area at this years event. Finally the Sage Cancer Center here in McHenry, Illinois, our newest partner here locally. All of these organizations help treat hundreds of thousands of cancer patients every year. We are very proud to be affiliated with such professional groups. Our efforts will continue to support these folks year after year.

We at Walla-Pa-Looza also decided that in our mission statement we needed to support families in our community – people that need our assistance, people that would help us if they could. Last year we helped one of our own, the Bionda/Woods family. It is nice to see Zak back on the path of recovery.

This year, we are recognizing two different families that are in need. The first person is a three year old boy from Johnsburg named Chase Benjamin Freund who has been diagnosed with cancer. Family and friends are putting together a fund raiser on Oct 16th at the world famous Brat Stop in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It will feature 5 bands. The event is $10.00 at the door. You can get more information if you go to The Chase Benjamin Freund page on Facebook. If you cannot make this event you can send a check to:

The second person we are recognizing is Barb Galluzzi. Barb, like Chase, has a tough road ahead of her. She has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Her family and friends are putting together a benefit on October 16th as well. Barb’s event is at The Gambler in McHenry, Illinois (on Green Street). The event will feature two live bands, raffles and much more. If you plan on going, it is a $5.00 donation at the door. We will be presenting checks to both families at each event. My heart goes out to both families and I can only hope that whatever funds we provide will help ease the difficulties that have been put in front of them.

As I write this blog the NFL has been promoting the pink ribbon for breast cancer during all the games and seeing my wife get teary eyed during the beginning of the Bears game only reminded me that we cannot do enough. We need to continue to raise awareness, money and hope for those that need it. Those cancer survivors that held that ribbon on the Meadowlands stadium showed me that WE can make a difference. Please remember that at anytime, it could happen to you.
