Hello Again Everybody!

Walla-Pa-Looza 3! July 30, 2011!

It has been awhile since I put together a blog so I figured today would be a good time to throw together an update and let you know what has been happening. Lately I have been up to my elbows in Johnsburg Baseball. Both boys, Andrew and Justin play in the league. I coach both of their teams and we have games pretty much every night. Don’t get me wrong. I love both my boys and the kids I coach but when it’s over I need to relax. Oh wait, that’s right, I am planning something else

Yup, another little project of mine, it is called Walla-Pa-Looza. In case you have been living in a bomb shelter the past three years, I will explain. Walla-Pa-Looza is a group dedicated to raising money for cancer and cancer research. We donate funds locally and nationally. Some examples would be, Centerga Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, The Bertulis Family and many more. We raise money by having music, food, beer and raffles. The easy part is for you to show up on July 30th at the Johnsburg Community Club, buy some stuff and watch some of the best bands in Northern Illinois.

Seems pretty simple right?

Well for the average public it is. Pay your $5.00’s, drink some beer, eat some pizza and throw a few bucks into the raffles and enjoy a great day. But if you’re the guy that decided to throw the fastest growing Not–For-Profit musical event in McHenry County, it’s not that simple.

Over the past three years I have had volunteers come and go because truthfully, it’s hard work and sometimes personalities don’t gel. Some of the decisions that get made are easy but going door to door asking for raffle items, begging for sponsorship and negotiating with vendors is tough. I sometimes wonder what the hell I got myself into! Yes, even me – Mr. Charity – thinks about planting his ass in a lawn chair, beer in hand rocking out to Nemesis Theory, Frank Bang & The Secret Stash, Uncle Sam and Bad Medicine. Not that I won’t be able to stop and listen – but I am always concerned with making sure everyone is enjoying the experience.

Speaking of the experience, we have some new things for you and the family. My wife had the cool idea of having a petting zoo and this year our gift back to your family is it’s free. Yep, Walla-Pa-Looza is paying the tab. So, now what’s your excuse for not attending? Who doesn’t want to feed a bunny or goat?

Our second annual Battle of The Bands is coming together nicely too. Dina DeMonte is doing a great job again this year. Mike Ritacco from Tone Works will be providing another year of quality sound so I am positive you will enjoy the battle. Also, check out Dina’s band Blush at McHenry Fiesta Days this year. They are playing on July 9th at 2:30.

I might throw another blog or two at you before the big event but please make sure to spread the word. In the meantime, I am planning another trip to see Jimmy Buffett. Man, if I had his marketing skills……

So, before you jump off the site, if you have an idea for us or want to donate an item or want to promote your business shoot me an e-mail at craig@walla-pa-looza.org.
