Community Bulletin Board

Johnsburg Community Club

I know that you have been hitting the “refresh” button waiting patiently for a new Walla-Pa-Looza blog. I know I do. So lets get to it.

This past month the board of directors voted on where our monies would be directed and I think we did a good job. Our partners this year are: The Sage Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (reminds me I better mail that check) and Ellen Carlson, a long time McHenry resident in need of some help as she battles round two. I was able stop very briefly to hand Ellen a check and say hello this past weekend. I hope she gets well soon. The event seemed well attended and from what I was told, they raised a nice amount of money.

Maybe it’s just me (or maybe just that I am paying attention to more things in my environment) but it’s really nice to see our community members rally around each other. I am getting invited to more community events and seeing more opportunities being put together by people that are willing to give back. It was nice to see Janet Swerby and Kris Wagner step up for a friend. I will make sure to beg both of them to come and volunteer for our events!

Johnsburg Lions

So since we are discussing thoughtful people in the community it brings me to a few events that are close to my heart. The joint venture of the Johnsburg Men’s Club and The Johnsburg Lions is one that I work every year. It’s called Sauf Und Spiel. For one weekend in Johnsburg both groups put on a wonderful time. The first night, Friday September 9th, the Johnsburg Men’s Club hosts the Black Light Bag Tournament. There will be Music by BarFly as well as food and adult beverages. Look for me behind the grill!

Saturday night, September 10th I get behind the bar for Banjo Beer Night sponsored by the Johnsburg Lions Club. They will have live music as well. Music will be provided by the Banjo Barons and Peter & The Versatiles. Food will be provided by my friends from Family Affair and corn from the Lions. As you can see from the title of the event, yes BEER will be served and a lot of it.

Stop out if you can, I might buy you a beer.

Sunday, September 11th, I get to walk the Sauf Und Spiel parade with my friends from Walla-Pa-Looza! The parade starts at 12:30 at the Johnsburg Jr High and wraps up at the Johnsburg Community Club where they will have all kinds of food vendors, children’s activities and music by Centerfold. If you see us in the parade, give us a shout, we have local band Hawnke Funk on our float and we will be throwing out free T-Shirts and promoting our big December event JOLLY-PA-LOOZA the first week in December.

Another event coming up is the Benefit for Jeff and Audra Tucker – on September 18th from 1:00 till 9:00 at Attitudes Bar & Grill, 10124 N. Second St, Machesney Park, Illinois.

Audra is a former classmate of mine who was diagnosed with breast cancer and to make matters worse, her husband Jeff, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis which is a disease of the lungs, and the only cure is a double lung transplant. They will have all kinds of silent auctions, 50/50 raffles and much more. I was able to see the Tucker family at Walla-Pa-Looza. Great people! Let’s hope for speedy recoveries for both Audra and Jeff!

Speaking of speedy recoveries –

Prayers go out to my best buddy Sheryl Smith and her boyfriend Bob. Get better soon Bob! We are all pulling for a speedy recovery. Because everyone knows I need Sheryl to give 100% otherwise, I bring the curve down considerably. Love ya Sheryl!

  • Hi Craig,
I wanted to thank you, Nick and Walla-Pa-Looza for all of your help and the generous monetary donation that was given on behalf of Ellen.
For those of you that are reading this and dont know… not only did Walla-Pa-Looza give a generous monetary gift but they also allowed us the use of tables, tents, donation cans, raffel tickets, and so much more.
Moreover, I want to personally thank you and Nick for allowing Janet and I to call on a whim and utilize your knowledge in order to make “Round 2 Will be the Final Round” a great success!
    Keep up the great work!!!
    Krissi
